SWMU 16 – Waste Explosives Storage Building

The Waste Explosives Storage Building was inspected during a follow-up Visual Site Inspection (VSI) conducted in June, 1993. No evidence of releases from this building was observed. The building has not been used since the operational closure of Naval Station Roosevelt Roads on March 31, 2004. It has been explosives clean closed and explosives certified clean by the Naval Ordnance Safety and Security Activity on March 8, 2005. Permitee has verbally indicated it has no knowledge or evidence of systemic and routine releases of hazardous wastes or constituents from this unit.

Status

  • A Revised Final RFI Work Plan was submitted to EPA for approval on October 11, 2006.
  • EPA approved the document on October 20, 2006.
  • The RFI field work was conducted between November 10 and November 20, 2006.
  • The Final Phase I RFI Report was submitted on November 20, 2007.
  • SWMU 16 is approved for Corrective Action Complete without Controls by the EPA.
