SWMU 57 – Facility No. 278 POL Drum Storage Area

SWMU 57 is located at Facility No. 278 which is a rectangular concrete pad approximately 100’ x 160’ in size.  Historic records reviews indicate that drum storage and staining on a concrete pad and surrounding soil, and the facility was used as the POL drum storage facility from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Surface, subsurface, and groundwater samples were collected to characterize the site.  Due to the analytes identified in the samples, interim measures are recommended for this site.

Status

• A Phase I RFI is recommended in the RCRA 7003 Administrative Order on Consent.
• The Final Phase I RFI Work Plan for SWMU 57 was submitted on December 20, 2007.
• EPA provided comments on February 26, 2008 to revised the Final Phase I RFI Work Plan, to which the Navy responded to on April 17, 2008, and EPA approved the Final Phase I RFI Work Plan on May 13, 2008.
• The Draft Phase I RCRA Facility Investigation for SWMU 57 was submitted to the EPA on August 13, 2010.
• EPA commented on the Draft Phase I RFI on October 7, 2010.
• The Final Phase I RCRA Facility Investigation for SWMU 57 was submitted to the EPA on November 24, 2010.
• A Draft Sampling and Analysis Plan for a Full RFI at SWMU 57 was submitted to the EPA on November 28, 2011.
