SWMU 61 – Former Bundy Area Maintenance Facilities

SWMU 61 is located southwest of Building 1686 in the Bundy area of the base.  Historic records reviews reveal areas of disturbed ground, storage tanks, drums, and staining in what appears to be a large open storage/maintenance area.  A majority of this site is currently located in a wooded area where runoff appears to collect after a rain event.

Surface and subsurface soil samples were collected to characterize the site. Based upon analytical data from soil samples collected at the site, soils were impacted by previous activities consistent with those performed at the former Bundy Area Maintenance Facility.

Status

• A CMS Work Plan is recommended in the RCRA 7003 Administrative Order on Consent.
• The Final CMS Work Plan for SWMU 61 was submitted on December 6, 2007 and approved by the EPA April 10, 2008.
• CMS Field Investigation was completed June 2008.
• Additonal sampling requested on October 7, 2009 in order to complete the CMS.
• A Draft Corrective Measures Study (CMS) Investigation Proposal for Additional Sampling was submitted to the EPA on January 8, 2010.
• EPA commented on the Draft CMS and a Revised Draft was submitted to the EPA on March 11, 2010 which was approved by EPA on May 17, 2010.
• The Draft Corrective Measures Study Report for SWMU 61 was submitted to the EPA on March 18, 2011.
